In case you have not been initiated into this fantastic tradition, The "Second line" is an integral part of a beautiful old tradition in New Orleans where people gather and parade down the street as part of a funeral or a wedding, Mardi Gras or sometimes just a hot Friday night!
The "Main line" [or primary organizers of the parade] are usually accompanied by a jazz band, a drink or two to ward off the hot and muggy New Orleans evenings and a whole lot of cool brought by the "Second line" who follow the band to enjoy the music and the celebration or to show respect. The second line's style of traditional dance, where walkers strut or dance with a parasol or handkerchief in the air is called "second lining."
We are proud to donate a portion of proceeds from this parasol to Rebuilding Together New Orleans; a charity dedicated to getting people into rebuilt homes in New Orleans' Katrina-devastated 9th ward. |
